Scientific Seminar: Synthesis of meta-phenol and Polysubstituted Phenol Derivatives

On the morning of July 19, 2025, the Faculty of Pharmacy – Ton Duc Thang University successfully organized a scientific seminar presented by Dr. Do Van Thanh Nhan, titled “Synthesis of meta-phenol and polysubstituted phenol derivatives.” The seminar was part of the JC Club academic series for lecturers, students, and researchers.

During the presentation, Dr. Nhan shared his recent research on developing and optimizing a novel synthetic method for meta-phenol and multi-substituted phenol derivatives. The method utilizes readily available starting materials, proceeds under mild conditions (room temperature), and does not require transition metals, offering an environmentally friendly and practical approach for modern organic synthesis.

Dr. Nhan is currently working at TC Scientific (Edmonton, Canada). He has extensive research experience at leading institutions, including the University of Alberta, the Institute for Chemical Reaction Design and Discovery (ICReDD) at Hokkaido University (Japan), and the Nobel Prize-winning research group of Prof. Benjamin List (Nobel Chemistry 2021).

The seminar attracted a large audience of faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduates. It served not only as an opportunity to update advanced knowledge in organic chemistry but also as an occasion to foster international academic exchange and inspire young generations in pharmaceutical research.
