The Medicinal Plant Garden website was developed to provide and systematically organize information on commonly used medicinal plants, particularly those cultivated, used, and studied in Vietnam. Information on each species is presented under key categories, including morphological characteristics, anatomical features, powdered drug characteristics, distribution and ecology, medicinal parts used, chemical constituents, pharmacological activities, and medicinal uses. By integrating photographs of actual plant specimens with specialized scientific information, the website aims to support learners in identifying medicinal plants, reinforcing their knowledge of pharmacognosy, and facilitating study, reference, and practical learning.
In addition to serving as a source of information on medicinal plants, the website is also designed as a shared learning database for students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Ton Duc Thang University. This resource supports students in courses related to botany and pharmacognosy, including Medicinal Plant Identification, Pharmaceutical Botany Laboratory, Pharmacognosy Laboratory 1 and 2, and other relevant professional courses within the pharmacy curriculum. Through this platform, students can connect theoretical knowledge with actual plant specimens cultivated in the Medicinal Plant Garden, thereby improving their ability to identify medicinal plants, retrieve relevant information, and apply their professional knowledge in practice.
Information on medicinal plant species presented on the website is compiled, cross-checked, and updated using multiple reliable sources, including the Vietnamese Pharmacopoeia VI, Medicinal Plants and Drugs of Vietnam by Prof. Do Tat Loi, Dictionary of Vietnamese Medicinal Plants by Vo Van Chi, as well as international botanical databases such as Plants of the World Online (POWO), World Flora Online (WFO), and scientific studies published in peer-reviewed journals. Scientific names and specialized information are preferentially verified against up-to-date authoritative sources to help ensure the accuracy, reliability, and reference value of the database.
