TDTU Faculty of Pharmacy Graduate Secures Full Scholarship for Master's in Medicinal Chemistry in France
(QNO) – Striving every day to realize his dream of studying abroad, Võ Nguyễn Huy Hoàng (born 2001, Bình Đào commune, Thăng Bình district) has successfully earned a full scholarship for a Master’s program in Medicinal and Organic Chemistry at Côte d’Azur University (France).
A Passion for Medicinal Chemistry
Fascinated with subjects related to chemistry, biology, and health sciences from an early age, Võ Nguyễn Huy Hoàng graduated with honors in Pharmacy from Tôn Đức Thắng University (Ho Chi Minh City). Not stopping there, in July 2024, this young man from Thăng Bình continued to pursue his dream of studying in France—with full tuition and living expenses covered.
Choosing France as his “promised land,” Huy Hoàng shared his hopes: “At Côte d’Azur University (France), I want to expand my knowledge in the field of medicinal chemistry. France is one of the world’s leading countries in science and technology, especially in chemistry. After more than six months studying theoretical courses in medicinal chemistry here, my perspective has broadened regarding the process of researching and developing new drugs. Subjects like Green Chemistry and Computer-Aided Drug Design fascinate me. They not only support medicinal chemistry research but are also highly relevant in today’s global scientific landscape.”
Hoàng also continuously seeks and updates his knowledge to avoid “falling behind.” He explores the development of artificial intelligence and computer technology and applies these scientific advancements to his medicinal chemistry research.
Not Letting Language Be a Barrier
Aware of his limited language skills, Huy Hoàng focused on improving his English throughout university. He consistently enhanced his English through various methods, such as attending language centers, learning online, and self-study via English videos and podcasts. The young man passionate about medicinal chemistry also made sure to engage with content related to chemistry, science, technology, and current affairs.
“My Master’s program in France is entirely taught in English. At this point, English is no longer a major obstacle in my learning journey. I can confidently discuss professional matters directly with professors, doctors, and fellow students, opening up opportunities for future research collaboration,” said Hoàng.
Hoàng also shared that he is working daily to improve his French listening and speaking skills in order to study, live, and develop further in France.
Don’t Just Dream…
During his undergraduate years in Vietnam while pursuing pharmacy, Huy Hoàng actively participated in various scientific research projects under the guidance of PhD holders and Master’s graduates from France, South Korea, Japan, and more.
Having set his sights on studying abroad since his third year of university, Hoàng gradually worked on strengthening his scholarship application. In addition to research, he engaged in extracurricular activities, joined academic clubs, and focused on language learning.
Currently, this young man from Quảng Nam is completing his Master's thesis in France. His research focuses on utilizing chemical catalysts derived from precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and rhodium to develop new synthetic methods for pharmaceutical applications—a highly promising field today.
Flying high in pursuit of his dreams, Hoàng shared: “After finishing my Master’s program in France, I plan to pursue a PhD here to delve deeper into medicinal chemistry. If my dream comes true, I hope to return to Vietnam and contribute to this field through research at universities.”
